Religious Education Discipline Policy

Student Behavior:  The religious education classes will take place in an atmosphere of learning and within a Christian setting.  Each student is expected to show respect for the catechist and fellow students as well as any other person involved in the program.  Each student is also expected to show respect for the property of St. Anthony’s School and the property of the students and teachers of the school.

Students are asked to arrive on time and prepared for class.  Students may not be disruptive to the class, disrespectful to teachers and staff or become a distraction at Mass.

The following is in effect when a discipline problem arises:

1.           Upon the first incident – a conference will be held between the teacher and student.

2.         Second incident – Teacher/Director calls parent, student sees Director.

3.         Third incident – A catechist may dismiss a student from class for uncooperative behavior.  The student will be defined as a discipline problem if, in the judgment of the teacher, the behavior is disruptive to the learning atmosphere of the class.  Parents will be called to pick up the student from the office.  A conference with the parents, students, and the Director will be held at this time.

4.        If disruptive behavior continues, students may be asked to leave the program for the remainder of the current year, and return to repeat the year.

Warning notes will be sent home as needed so that parents are informed of their children’s behavior in class.  Due to the number of students in the program, each situation will be evaluated on an individual basis.  Thank you for your cooperation and support in this matter.
